A statement of the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church about the meeting with the President of Ukraine

    

At the initiative of the President of Ukraine P. A. Poroshenko on 13 November 2018 was scheduled to meet with the bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in National centre of business and cultural cooperation “Ukrainian house”.

With the blessing of his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onuphrius, at the appointed date of the episcopate of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra. On the same day held an emergency meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church took the decision to convene the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

They discussed the state of Church-state relations, public statements by heads of state, which could be regarded as such, which was directed against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, taking into consideration the moods and thoughts of the Church people and clergy, and based on the fact that the Church issues should be discussed on Church property, the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church decided to meet with the President, but not in the “Ukrainian house”, and on the territory of Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. This decision of the bishops was at once communicated to the President. However, the President refused to meet.

Given these circumstances, the Council of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church confirms its willingness to meet with the President of Ukraine, but on the Church grounds.
