In the temple vmch. St. George in the Valley of the Moscow metochion of the Spaso-Preobrazhensky the Solovetsky Stavropegial monastery stays Korsun icon of the Mother of God, reports the Synodal Department for monasteries and monasticism.
23 Jun 2018 during the evening service at Church vicar of Holy Transfiguration Solovetsky monastery Archimandrite Porfiry (Shutov) after reading this Sunday’s gospel addressed the congregation with an archpastoral word:
“For centuries one of the greatest shrines of Solovetsk was Sosnovskiy-Korsun icon of the Mother of God. She miraculously appeared on a pine tree in the Northern part of Bolshoi Solovetsky island. Later there arose the monastic settlement, a chapel was built. Later, the icon was lost.
This year, in the icon Studio of the Holy Trinity-St. Sergius Lavra was referred to the restoration of a very damaged, almost lost face, the icon of the Korsun mother of God from the Church of St. Nicholas in Klenniki, where he lived Holy and righteous father Alexis Mechev. When it was restored, opened the way very high spiritual beauty. It became clear that the icon has streamed myrrh, as evidenced by the remaining traces.
We will examine and compare this image with the available descriptions of the icon that was on Solovki. God knows, maybe it is the very Shrine, which so miraculously returned to his native abode. The man who brought the icon to St. Nicholas Church, once said that she’s from the ruined monastery. Got him in an unusual way and needs to return to one of the Holy places of Russia. That was the commandment from the parish rector. Now this icon is with us.”
The Shrine will stay in the temple vmch. George of the Moscow metochion of the Solovetsky monastery until July 1, then the icon will be transferred to the Solovetsk monastery.
