Attempts to prevent the believers of the UOC to go in procession in Kiev are a result of the politicization of the religious sphere, says Valentin Gaidai.

“What recent years, the government prevents the religious procession that is the UOC is the evidence that we have now very much politicized all areas of life, economic, cultural, scientific, and religious, – said the expert. – Although we have, as we know, state and religion are separated even by the Constitution. But, of course, Ukraine is a country where everything is written is one thing, but what happens in reality is quite another”.

According to Gaidai, the parishioners who go on a procession organized by the UOC, in fact, protest against the authorities.

“We have always seen that these processions had collected tens and hundreds of thousands of people, – said the expert. – So the authorities are now profitable to show that the majority of citizens on the side of the Orthodox Church.”

Commenting on the fact that Ukraine has hooked up administrative resources with the purpose of letting the faithful of the UOC to go in procession to the Embassy noted that it is contrary to the Constitution.

“The Constitution affirms that no one can interfere in the enjoyment of his legal rights movement, the expression of a particular position. Now, on the eve of the elections, the authorities are trying to put a spoke in the wheel of the opposition, and even, in some plan of religious opposition. But qualitatively, this is in fact the procession will not appear” – said the analyst.

As reported by the SPM, officials EN masse to block participation of the faithful in the procession of the UOC. In Zaporizhia, Zhytomyr, Rivne and other areas hinder the faithful of the UOC to go in procession to the capital, including putting pressure on the carriers.

Earlier, commenting on media reports about the authorities creating obstacles to the participation of the faithful of the UOC in the procession, the lawyers of NGO “Public advocacy” explained that it is a criminal offense.
