Bulgarian archaeologists discovered an ancient temple with well-preserved frescoes of the XIII century.

During the excavations of the medieval fortress in Bulgaria archaeologists have discovered the ruins of an ancient temple. Fragments of a previously unknown Church were on the territory of Veliko Tarnovo, according to the online edition of Archaeology in Bulgaria.

Among the discovered artifacts is a well – preserved wall paintings, including a unique fresco depicting Jesus Christ Pantocrator. The fresco is dated to the XIII century and refers to the period of the Second Bulgarian Kingdom.

According to historians, the murals are unique. They have a higher artistic value than painting the walls found in other churches of the fortress.
