The year of the centenary of the feat of the Holy Royal family in Ekaterinburg will appear Boulevard St. Eugene Botkin, the doctor, martyred together with a Royal passion-bearers in the Ipatiev house on July 17, 1918, reports patriarhiei.

June 28, 2018 in the capital of the Urals held a meeting of the Commission for the name of toponymic objects of the municipality “City of Ekaterinburg”, which addressed the issue of assigning the Boulevard in the Akademichesky district of Yekaterinburg names “of St. Eugene Botkin.”

A petition for the assignment of this name to object the city asked residents Academic neighborhood.

“We believe that the fair name of the doctor Eugene Botkin, the epitome of his duty to patients and have accepted death with them, is deeply revered in the medical community and have made great contributions to the development of medicine, will fit into the next cluster in our district,” noted the students in his address.

Having considered the petition of residents of the neighborhood and examining the provided sketches and projects, the Commission on the name of toponymic objects satisfied the petition of the citizens and decided to assign the projected urban object name “Boulevard St. Eugene Botkin.”

In the Academic neighborhood for the planned facility, which will be the name of the Holy doctor. 17 June the Metropolitan of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Kirill performed the rite of consecration of the cross on the construction site of the temple in honour of the Martyr Eugenia of the doctor and in memory of all the physicians of our Fatherland. The temple was founded on the site of the future medical cluster, which will be paved Boulevard Eugene Botkin.

The name of the Holy doctor is of great importance for the life of our country, stressed at the consecration of the future temple, the Metropolitan of Yekaterinburg and Verkhoturye Kirill.

The doctor of the family of Tsar Nicholas II Yevgeny Sergeyevich Botkin volunteered with the Royal family into exile to Tobolsk and then to Ekaterinburg, where he was martyred together with the Emperor Nicholas II and his family in the night from 16 to 17 July 1918.

The decision on the canonization of inclusion in the calendar of Russian Orthodox Church named Eugene Botkin as “a righteous Martyr Eugenia, the doctor” was adopted at the Council of bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church on February 2-3, 2016. The glorification among the saints was held on 7 February 2016, the day of the feast of the Synaxis of the new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church in the Ekaterinburg Temple on Blood.
