In Ukraine came into force the law on renaming of religious organizations

    

Bill No. 5309 on renaming of religious organizations, the guiding center of which is located outside of Ukraine, came into effect.

The official parliamentary newspaper “Voice of Ukraine” published the text of the law 26 Dec 2018, soobshaet “the Union of Orthodox journalists.”

The examination, which will determine which religious organizations are subject to this rule, will conduct Department of the Ministry of culture of religions and nationalities. The results will also be published.

In accordance with the provisions of the law, for the first nine months of the community, which will affect the provisions of the law must change its name and to submit the relevant documents to the state authorities.

As reported by the SPM, the UOC announced their intention to appeal the bill No. 5309 in the constitutional court of Ukraine. The head of the legal Department of the UOC Archpriest Oleksandr bakhov explained that any attempt by the state to force the Church to change its name are illegal and are regarded from the point of view of international law as interference in the internal Affairs of religious groups. In this regard, the UOC intends to protect its rights by all legitimate means.

22 December the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko has signed anti-Catholic bill No. 5309 “On amendments to the law of Ukraine “On freedom of conscience and religious organizations” regarding the name of religious organizations which fall within the structure (are part of) a religious organization, the governing center of which is located outside of Ukraine…”.

December 20, the deputies 240 votes supported the draft law No. 5309, which obliges the UOC to change its name.
