Petro Poroshenko believes the “enthronement” of the head of the DNC a big public issue, but explains that in Ukraine there is no state Church.

President Petro Poroshenko said that he personally and the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, as the Ukrainian government has done everything possible for the establishment of the PCU. He said this during a speech on the occasion of the enthronement of the “Metropolitan” Epiphany 3 February, the press service of the head of state.

“The enthronement of the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Ukraine symbolizes that God’s Providence this great public issue. Congratulations to all the Ukrainian people with this event” – said Poroshenko.

He said he believes the newly-registered Church structure independent from the state: “In Ukraine there is no state Church. This constitutional principle has been and will remain unshakable.”

The head of state said that he and the head of the DNC “have a shared vision of what they want the citizens of Ukraine” and explained that the denominations in Ukraine has “very wide field for cooperation.”

As reported by the SPM, earlier the President Petro Poroshenko urged not to hurry with the transfer of churches to the newly established PCU, because “all the time”.
