Protecting the Church from robbers, killed 66-year-old caretaker of the temple in Melitopol

    

During the robbery of the temple of the great Martyr Panteleimon the city of Melitopol robbers brutally beat a 66-year-old caretaker of the temple. From the received traumas the man died in hospital, informs a portal “Orthodox life” with reference to Information and education Department of the UOC.

The crime was committed at about midnight on 19 June 2018.

“The robbers climbed onto the temple grounds through the fence. When Anatoly (the so-called watchmen) saw them, a fight began. The attackers severely beat him, smashed his skull and left him lying on the ground. They themselves broke into the dining room, which is also on site, and just sat and drank there,” – said the rector of the Church Archpriest Nikolai Lukashuk.

The details of the incident, the priest learned from the victim, who managed to talk until the arrival of the ambulance.

“Anatoly found a worker of the temple. She immediately called me. I called an ambulance, the police. When he arrived, he was still conscious. However, even the eyes could not open how face was swollen from beatings. I managed to ask him a few questions. He said the robbers were two. Then he was taken to hospital where he almost immediately died,” – said Archpriest Nikolai Lukashuk.

On a scene there arrived heads of local law enforcement, representatives of the SBU. The police fulfills a number of versions.

It is noted that in search of profit the criminals staged in the Church is a mess, but found only 300 hryvnia. Also they took the gatehouse, some of the victim’s belongings.

Archpriest Nikolai Lukashuk requests prayers for the repose of the newly departed Anatolia.
