The Argentinean Senate voted against the legalization of abortion

The Argentine Senate voted against the bill, which provides for the legalization of abortion in pregnancy up to 14 weeks, reports Interfax-Religion with the reference to Bi-Bi-si.

Against the bill were 38 senators in support – 31.

It is noted that now submit for reconsideration, the bill will be possible only next year.

Currently, abortion in Argentina is only permitted in cases where pregnancy was caused by rape or if the pregnancy threatens the mother’s health.

In front of the Senate during a debate that lasted more than 15 hours, gathered both supporters and opponents of the bill. In total, the demonstrations were attended by hundreds of thousands of people, most of them women.

Opponents of the initiative, welcomed the vote, saying that “the vote showed that Argentina remains a country that values family values.”
