The Georgian Orthodox Church transferred the relics of prepodobnomuchenitsy Tamar (Marjanovic)

    

10 December 2018 with the blessing of his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill held a working trip of Chairman of Department of external Church kwazamokuhle Patriarchate, Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk in Georgia. At the request of his Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II, Metropolitan Hilarion brought the gift of the Georgian Orthodox Church the relics of prepodobnomuchenitsy Tamar (Marjanovi), recently canonized by the Georgian and Russian Orthodox Churches, according to patriarhiei.

At the Patriarchal residence in Tbilisi, the Shrine was met by his Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos Elias, bishops, clergy and monks of the Georgian Church. In front of the Shrine with the relics was made a short prayer service.

Then there was a meeting, the DECR Chairman met with His Holiness and Bliss. The meeting was attended by the hierarchs of the Georgian Orthodox Church, the Patriarchal Locum Tenens Metropolitan Senaksky and Choricystis Shio, Metropolitan of Sachkhere and Chiatura Daniel, Chairman of the Foreign Department of the Georgian Patriarchate, Metropolitan of Zugdidi and Caisse Gerasim, Metropolitan of Akhaltsikhe and Tao-Klarjeti Theodore, Metropolitan of Gori and Ateni Andrew and Bishop Nikortsminda Vakhtang, rector of Zion Cathedral, rector of the Tbilisi theological Academy Archpriest Georgy, Zviadadze, cleric of the Moscow Church of St. George the victorious in Small Georgians Archpriest Kakhaber Gogotishvili, as well as the Secretary of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate on inter-Orthodox relations, Archpriest Igor Yakymchuk, cleric of St. Alexander Nevsky Church in Tbilisi Archpriest Vladimir Alexandrov and subdeacon by Metropolitan Hilarion V. Lee.

His Holiness and Beatitude Patriarch Elijah gave his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill for the warm words of gratitude for the precious gift — the power of prepodobnomuchenitsy Tamar, the life which was closely connected with the Georgian and Russian churches. His Holiness and Beatitude expressed the belief that the prayers of this highly revered in Georgia, and in Russia the Holy will have a great importance for the strengthening of fraternal relations between Russian and Georgian peoples.

Addressing his Holiness and Beatitude Catholicos-Patriarch of all Georgia Ilia II, Metropolitan Hilarion said:

“I would like to cordially greet Your Holiness and Beatitude on behalf of his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill. Responding to the request of Your Holiness and Beatitude, Patriarch Kirill blessed to allocate part of the relics of prepodobnomuchenitsy Tamar Georgian Orthodox Church, today with love and joy sends it to Your Holiness and Beatitude for the worship of the faithful of the Georgian Orthodox Church.

You said that prepodobnomuchenitsa Tamar was abbess in Georgia (Babescom monastery), and in Russia (in Moscow’s intercession monastery). She is revered by the faithful people and in the Georgian and Russian Orthodox Churches.

After 2016, she was canonized by the Georgian Church, the Holy Synod of the Russian Church, it was decided about her canonization. We honor her as one of the Confessors of the XX century that has passed through the cross leading to Golgotha.

Today we celebrate prepodobnomuchenitsa Tamar as the heavenly patroness of both our Churches and our two peoples. I would like to Express the hope that this prayer of unceasing succour of God will accompany us in our joint work for the good of Holy Orthodoxy, will connect our peoples that the linking of the spiritual that runs through the human heart that transcends all earthly boundaries and will remain not only on this earth but in the Kingdom of heaven.

Once again I would like to cordially greet Your Holiness and Bliss and all Your respected co-workers on behalf of his Holiness Patriarch Kirill”.

In the ensuing conversation, the sides discussed topical issues of inter-Orthodox relations.

Then the guests from the Russian Orthodox Church were invited to a fraternal meal.

On the same day, the DECR Chairman returned home.
