The Holy Synod urged the Parliament to discontinue the anti-constitutional draft laws # 4128, 4511, and 5309 (Journal No. 18).

The bishops of the UOC-MP stressed that the bills will make strangers in their own country millions of believers of Ukraine. They declared it during meeting of Synod on September 25, according to Information-enlightenment Department of the UOC.

The Holy Synod urged all involved in the work on the draft laws # 4128 (about changing the subordination of religious communities), 4511 (on the special status of religious organizations), 5309 (for change of name of religious organizations), to abandon these anti-Catholic and contrary to the Constitution of Ukraine legislative initiatives.

According to the bishops, the draft laws “are aimed at the legal liquidation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church by means of raider attacks through the name change, illegal interference in the control and seizure of property (shrines, temples and monasteries)”.

In the decisions of the Synod notes that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church is a religious Association that is registered and operates in accordance with the laws of Ukraine, and any compulsion to change its name are illegal and qualify as interference in the internal Affairs of the Church.

Also the Holy Synod warned the lobbyists bills that their adoption will artificially divide people and make strangers in their own country, millions of citizens of Ukraine, urged to refrain from these anti-clerical initiatives.

As reported by PWC, September 25, at the residence of the Primate of the UOC in the territory of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra held a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church. The meeting was chaired by his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onufry.

Previously, more than 60 thousand voters signed a petition to the people’s deputies of Ukraine, urging them to withdraw or not to vote for anti-Catholic bills and 4128 5309.
