June 26 in the Hellenic Parliament in the framework of the 25th Anniversary of the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly on Orthodoxy (IAO) took place the election of the President of map. The new head of the IAP became the Chairman of the Committee of the state Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation on development of civil society, public and religious organisations Sergey Gavrilov.
The newly elected President called the IAP “a major international inter-parliamentary Institute, whose task is to promote the role of Christianity and Christian values in the international arena”.
“Strengthening cooperation between the parliaments of the countries, which often exist simultaneously three monotheistic religions – Christianity, Islam, Judaism, and the promotion of interreligious and intercultural dialogue are indispensable elements of a peaceful and harmonious coexistence of all peoples based on mutual understanding and respect to each other,” said Sergei Gavrilov.
Recall that in the period from 25 to 30 June 2018, the delegation of the State Duma participates in the 25th Anniversary of the General Assembly of the Interparliamentary Assembly of Orthodoxy in Athens. During the visit, will hold meetings with President of the Hellenic Republic, Prokopis pavlopoulos a, Chairman of the Parliament of the Hellenic Republic Nikolaos Volcom and Beatitude, Archbishop of Athens and all Greece Hieronymus.
