The newly elected head of the DNC thanked the U.S. for supporting “independent” Churches


The meeting of the Ambassador of the USA in Ukraine Marie Yovanovitch and the head of the DNC Epiphany Dumenko.

20 December in Kiev held a meeting of the “Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine” Epiphany Dumenko with the US Ambassador in Ukraine, Marie Yovanovitch.

The newly elected “Primate” thanked the United States for their efforts to protect religious freedom worldwide, and support the rights of the Orthodox Ukrainians “independent” Church “according to their own choice,” according to the Greek publication Romfea.

In turn, the U.S. Ambassador to Ukraine congratulated the Epiphany on election as Primate of the ptsu.

“Tolerance, restraint and understanding are key factors in providing the opportunity for people with different religious beliefs to live and prosper peacefully together”, – said Jovanovic.

According to the “Kievan diocesan news,” the meeting was held in St Michael’s Vydubytskyi monastery and provided for an exchange of views “on a number of issues related to the practical aspects of the emergence of a unified national Church.”

As reported by the SPM, the Secretary of state Mike Pompeo held with the head of PCU telephone conversation in which he stressed that the U.S. supports religious freedom and the sovereignty of Ukraine and called for respect for “the possibility of all Ukrainians to practice a religion of his choice”.

Earlier, the Deputy head of the press service of the state Department Robert Palladino stated that the United States supports Ukraine created a new Church structure and religious freedom should not be any obstacles from the outside.
