The Primate celebrated the divine Liturgy on the day of the Cathedral of new martyrs and Confessors

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry, the clergy and many of the faithful commemorated the Cathedral of new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church.

February 10, 2019 Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onufry divine Liturgy at the Church in honor of venerable Anthony and Theodosius of the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. Reported Information-enlightenment Department of the UOC.

Concelebrating were the Deputy kiyevo-Pechersky monastery the Metropolitan Vyshgorodsky and Chernobyl Paul, Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the UOC Metropolitan Mitrofan of Lugansk and Alchevsk, Archbishop Panteleimon buchansky and the clergy of the monastery.

Together with their Archpastor prayed numerous pilgrims and parishioners of the Kyiv-Pechersk monastery.

After reading the gospel, the Primate addressed the congregation with a sermon. His Beatitude the Archbishop commented on the gospel story about the meeting of Zacchaeus, a publican with the Lord. According to his Beatitude the Bishop, this story of Christians preparing for lent: as Zacchaeus, to see Christ, climbed a tree, and every Christian to become closer to God must ascend the “tree” post.

The Primate spoke about the need for and objectives of the post, and also reminded the believers about the courage of the martyrs and Confessors, whose life is a particularly important example for modern Christians.

“Today the Holy Church of prayer and glorify the new martyrs and Confessors of the Russian Church. Those are our brothers, sisters, fathers, grandfathers, relatives who suffered for the name of God in times of atheistic regime. Then they bravely went to their death, only to remain faithful to God, not to abdicate, not to depart from his Savior and Creator. These are the people who are the example of how we must bravely endure all the vicissitudes of this life, all the temptations of the tribulation that is sent us for our faith. Faith is necessary to keep as the Apple of his eye”, – said the Primate.

According to him, “if there is true faith – there is hope for salvation. People can be the most fallen, the most notorious sinner, but having the right faith, he can in a moment to get up, to repent and come to salvation. If no faith is correct, then the person may want to repent, but he doesn’t know how to do it, he does not see the path of man to God, and true faith leads a person to God, to eternal life. It allows the person to properly understand God and to behave towards God.”

During worship was lifted up an ardent prayer for peace in Ukraine and unity of the Orthodox Church. Were also lifted up prayer for the repose of the souls of all who suffered for Christ in the days of godless persecution.

His Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry made priestly ordination of deacon Vitaly Gorzow, employee of the Department for external Church relations of the UOC.

At the end of the service, the Primate congratulated the faithful on the holiday and wished humility, patience, love for God and neighbor and bless all present.

As reported by PWC, informed his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onufry called on the faithful to preserve “the harmony that God created in man,” because such people “live longer, and more spiritually perfect, and love God more”.
