Director of the Ukrainian Institute of national remembrance believes that the UOC may not use “the brand that was used 25 years.”

If the Ukrainian Orthodox Church wants to continue its activities, it should be renamed. On 9 November the head of the Ukrainian Institute of national memory Vladimir vyatrovich, asked in chat for “Glavred” the question is how to call the UOC in connection with the recent events surrounding Thomas.

“It’s all understood from the beginning – we are talking about the Russian Orthodox Church. If the Church wants to continue its activities in Ukraine, that’s exactly what she should be called − ROC. Everyone understands that this Church is the Ukrainian Orthodox Church and cannot use the brand that she used for over 25 years in our country,” – said vyatrovich.

Earlier, Poroshenko said that after the establishment of one Local Church, the UOC will be called “Russian Orthodox Church”. He later said that representatives of the “ROC” has nothing to do in Ukraine, and recommended them to go “home to Russia”.

According to Metropolitan of Boryspil and Brovarsky Anthony, calling for the renaming of the UOC “the huge number of believers for some ridiculous reason, denied the right to be Ukrainians”. Also, Archbishop Anthony reported that, requiring to select the name of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, the schismatics are seeking the transformation of the canonical Church in someone else’s for his people.
