Alcohol consumption can have much more serious consequences than we can imagine. Alcohol has a harmful effect not only on the health and personality of the drinker but also his family and society as a whole, and is detrimental to the eternal fate of man.
The number of people with a painful addiction to alcohol around the world is increasing every year.
By the end of 2016, the consumption of alcohol by Russians has decreased a bit, but the country is still in the top five of the drinkers in the world. The average Russian drinks 15.1 liters of alcohol. Women eat less than half at 7.8 L.
Among different peoples there are differences in the ability to neutralize gets in the body alcohol. For example, the southern peoples for centuries consume grapes, this ability is higher than that of the Northern peoples.
Eat the grapes by fermentation in the gastrointestinal tract leads to the appearance of small doses of alcohol. The body of the southern peoples for many generations learned to develop special enzymes that neutralize alcohol.
The Northern peoples lack the enzyme, which meets the first molecule of alcohol and begins to break down. Therefore, the use of even small doses of alcohol leads to alcoholism. The peoples of Russia belong to this category.
Most of the problem of alcoholism affects children. Sadly, drinking, family members do not understand. According to research, 60 % of children in drinking families exposed to violence, more than 90 % of children in orphanages — children of parents deprived of parental rights because of alcoholism. According to statistics, 40% of graduates of orphanages end up in prison, another 40% become alcoholics or drug addicts, 10% commit suicide. And only 10% find the strength to start a new life.

Zhdanov, candidate of physico-mathematical Sciences, Professor, winner of the gold medal of the Academy of natural Sciences “For contribution to strengthening health of the nation” said very true words about people selling alcohol: “the Whole alcohol market, we have captured the Western monopolies, and I believe that people who sell alcohol… will suffer a dreadful punishment and will be responsible for what is happening now, on earth.”
People that sell alcohol and thus ruining the health of people, I recall the words from Scripture: “And whosoever shall offend one of these little ones which believe in Me, it were better if he hung him gernamny a stone round his neck and he cast into the sea” (Mark 9:42). Each of us will stand before God and will answer for his life.
The problem of our society that alcoholism is not perceived as a serious evil. How many people more must die? How many families to disintegrate? How many more children have to get into children’s homes that we thought of the danger that carries with it the alcohol?
Because kids start to drink, seeing the example of adults. The concept of the Russian Orthodox Church, adopted in 2014, States that every Christian is obligated to be an example of a sober lifestyle. “I have long been moderately consume man — says Archpriest Ilya Shugaev — but at some point I realized that a light, seemingly to consumption, will seduce their children. I won’t be able to protect them, releasing in a life where a huge amount of temptation, and people will purposefully teach them to drink. I was scared, and it is because of these reasons I have taken a vow of sobriety and feel absolutely right.”
Few people know that in the late XIX – early XX centuries in Russia has developed a great tresenitsa movement, which was attended by thousands of people across the country. Was organized about 2,000 of temperance societies, which had more than half a million members. To be sober is essentially a Christian virtue, a necessary condition for our salvation. Because it is written in the word of God: “Nor thieves, nor the covetous, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor predators — will not inherit the Kingdom of God” (1 Corinthians 6:10).
I must admit that sobriety we just needed it as a saving straw for our people. Just taking a sober lifestyle, we will be able to preserve themselves as a people, to preserve their future, their family, their children. Agree that the nation, which has the vices of a weak and controllable.
