The Archbishop of Nizhyn and Pryluky Clement responded to statements Hierarch Fanara about the actual “liquidation” of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

For several centuries between Constantinople and the UOC, there is no direct chain of command. On 2 November, said the head of the Information Department of the UOC Archbishop of Nizhyn and Pryluky Clement, Correspondent reports with reference to RT.

Commenting on the words of Archbishop job (Geci) that “from the canonical point of view, in Ukraine, the Moscow Patriarchate is no more”, Archbishop Clement noted that the Ukrainian Orthodox Church subordinate to Constantinople.

“What has Constantinople Patriarchate to the Ukrainian Orthodox Church? – asks the head of the Synodal Department of the UOC. – For a long time, after the heresies and the unions, which have repeatedly fallen of the Constantinople Patriarchate, after the sacking of Constantinople more than 500 years ago and the disappearance of the Empire, no laws of the Empire, including regulating Church life in the Byzantine Empire, no longer have its value. For this reason, for centuries there is no direct subordination between the Ukrainian Orthodox Church of the Constantinople Patriarchate does not exist.”

According to the Hierarch of the UOC, the cancellation of the document on transfer of the Kyiv Metropolitanate in 1686 – is still, to overrule the decisions of the Ecumenical councils IV or VII centuries.

“The more so because it documents the 300-year-old is a completely different area in the Church and in the political sense. Kiev Metropolia in XVII century does not correspond to the boundaries of the Church in its current state. And our government is also not determined by the Archdiocese, which was in the XVII century”, – concluded the Archbishop Clement.

Earlier in the Constantinople Patriarchate said that “today in Ukraine, the Moscow Patriarchate does not exist anymore”, and all the bishops of Ukraine are de facto bishops of the Ecumenical throne.
