Session of the Nikolaev regional Council on 4 July
As reported the Nikolaev mass media, the deputies shouting and arguments made at the session of the Nikolaev regional Council the question of autocephaly.
July 5, in Nikolaevsk regional Council held an extraordinary session which passed the consideration of support of Church initiatives of President Poroshenko about the autocephaly of the Local Church in Ukraine. This writes Novosti-n.org.
During meeting of Presidium of the Nikolaev regional Council on July 4, the Deputy head of regional state administration on humanitarian question Evgeny Shevchenko said that the need to support the decision of the President of Ukraine Petro Poroshenko about the Ukrainian Autocephalous Orthodox Church and vote for Tomos.
However, according to journalists, this has caused resentment among some MPs.
The people’s Deputy Maxim Nevenchanny demanded to meet all the participants what Tomos and explain what the purpose of the issue of religion is brought to the session hall.
Another MP who is not a member of the Bureau, voiced his opinion that the question submitted to the vote in order to embroil society.
Among people’s deputies began a verbal altercation in a raised voice.
First Deputy Chairman of regional state administration Vyacheslav Bon said, “I respect the opinion of each of you, and understand that there will be MPs who are against. But I still appeal to the common sense. The President of Ukraine appealed to the Ecumenical Patriarch Bartholomew, in relation to the granting of the autocephaly of our Orthodox Church. This is a really important issue and we need to support.”
The official stressed that all “democratic forces”, namely: BPP, “popular front”, “Fatherland”, “Our land” and “Ill”, despite political differences unanimously supported the autocephaly. Bon asked all of the representatives of the “democratic forces” in the Nikolaev area to support this issue at the session and noted that it would be nice if the “opposition” will support the issue.
The leader of the “opposition bloc” Vladimir Frolenko said: “You identified the parties, the composition of the “democratic forces” that make decisions. I am very grateful to you. Whatever decision is adopted, people will understand who will be “democratic power”, who have power, and that chaos”.
Earlier in Pochaiv the city Council supported the appeal of the President of the autocephaly.
In mid-April, Poroshenko appealed to the Constantinople Patriarch Bartholomew to grant the Tomos of autocephaly of the Church in Ukraine and announced the creation of a Single Local Church. The Verkhovna Rada supported the President. In the Kyiv Patriarchate has already declared that they see on the head ETC its leader, Filaret, a devotee of the canonical Church anathema.
