Elected as new academic Dean of St. Vladimir Seminary of the Orthodox Church in America – Your Bible

St. Vladimir’s Orthodox theological Seminary [SVOTS] appointed Dr. Yanuca-Alexander Tudori for the position of academic Dean, reported on the official website of the Orthodox Church in America.

The Board of Trustees of the Seminary elected academic Dean Dr. Tudori, a native of Romania, 18 July 2018, after an Academic search Committee of the Dean reduced the list of possible candidates to two. The search for a new Dean for the higher religious school of the Orthodox Church in America began in the beginning of the 2017-2018 academic year, writes the Week.

“There is no doubt that Dr. Tudori will bring extraordinary gifts and achievements, which will benefit the Seminary,” said Archpriest Chad Hatfield, the President of St. Vladimir’s Seminary. “From Europe, he follows a long tradition of SVOTS on the “import” of “rising stars” from abroad”, — joked the President of the Seminary.

Previously, Dr. Tudori served as a Professor of Byzantine history and the history of the medieval Church at the University of Bucharest. He brings to the SVOTS experience of teaching and research in the field of Church history, byzantinistic, Patristics. It is noted that, Tudori speaks several languages.

“The great 80-year history of the Orthodox St. Vladimir’s Seminary with its many outstanding professors from fathers George Florovsky and John Meyendorff and Alexander Schmemann, who formed the theological studies in their respective fields, would force everyone to follow in their footsteps, said after his election, Dr. Tudori. — That’s why I’m so happy and grateful that I was given the opportunity to join this well-known institution of Orthodox education and education”.

Dr. Tudori 41 years old, he has a doctorate in theology and the history of the University of Bucharest. In addition, he was Director of advanced research projects and served as Secretary of her Department and a member of the Commission on quality education at the University of Bucharest. His research received financial and intellectual support from prestigious international institutions, including the Netherlands Institute for advanced study, Libraries and collections of Dumbarton Oaks, the Board of the New Europe, International Woodrow Wilson center, the Romanian Academy, the National research Council and Institute of research in the Humanities (University of Bucharest). He is the author of many publications and scientific works.

The official search for a new academic Dean for St. Vladimir’s Seminary began in the fall of 2017. For search Committee has been formed under the chairmanship of his Beatitude, Metropolitan Tikhon, Primate of the Orthodox Church in America. The Committee considered several candidates. In may 2018, the Committee submitted two final candidates, including Dr. Tudori, the Board of Trustees of the Seminary for further consideration.

Dr. Tudori became the first academic Dean of St. Vladimir’s Seminary, under the new management model of this spiritual school, which was adopted in 2016. The academic Dean will serve as chief scientific officer whose primary responsibility is to direct and control the Department and control all academic activities of the Seminary under the supervision of the head of the Seminary. The academic Dean is appointed by the Board of Trustees and reports directly to the President of the Seminary.
