From my experience, the Estonian Church testifies that the actions Fanara taken without any consultation with the canonical UOC, can have serious consequences.
The Synod of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate announced support for the canonical UOC. This is stated in the statement published on 2 October on the website of the EOC MP.
“Synod of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate expresses its deep concern over the dangerous development of the ecclesiastical situation in Ukraine caused by the unilateral actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, sent two of his bishops in Kiev to implement the project of creation of the Ukrainian Autocephalous Church, the statement reads. – We bear witness to the experience of the Estonian Orthodox Church that such actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople taken by him without any agreement with the canonical hierarchy of the UOC can lead to serious consequences for Orthodoxy in Ukraine and for the unity of the universal Church as a whole.”
Bishops EPTS note that today representatives of schismatic communities in Ukraine, voiced the plans of the deprivation of the UOC is its official name and disposition of its property in favor of Constantinople created a new Church structure.
“If those plans are carried out, the Orthodoxy of Ukraine will be seriously damaged, and millions of Ukrainian Orthodox believers will face discrimination, being without their churches and monasteries”, the statement reads.
The document stresses that the Synod of the EOC MP fully supports the position of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, as expressed in his statement of 14 September 2018, and expresses full support to his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onufriy, the bishops, the clergy and the fullness of the UOC.
“We urge the clergy and all the faithful of the Estonian Orthodox Church of the Moscow Patriarchate to offer especial prayers for the unity and Concord of the Holy Orthodox Church, as well as the early equitable resolution of the situation”, – said in the conclusion.
As reported by the SPM, the Synod of the ROCOR condemned the attempts of creating an Autocephalous Church in Ukraine and expressed support for his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onuphrius. Also the Orthodox Church in America called for increased prayer for the Primate of the UOC
