The Patriarchate of Constantinople does not recognize the schismatic Macedonian Church, if it will use in its name the word “Macedonian”, decided in Fanar.

Bishops ‘ Council (Synaxis) of the Church of Constantinople considered the issue of the schismatic Macedonian Orthodox Church in Istanbul on 1 September, according to “Romfea”.

As reported, Patriarch Bartholomew responded to the request for recognition of the Macedonian Orthodox Church a categorical “no”, if the name will contain the name “Macedonia” or any derivative of it.

The Macedonian Church was formed as a result of a split in the Serbian Orthodox Church in 1967.

In November 2017, the Macedonian Orthodox Church has asked the Bulgarian Orthodox Church to establish “Eucharistic communion with the updated Archbishopric of Ohrid”, asking that the Macedonian Church was recognized as Autocephalous.

The Bulgarian Orthodox Church agreed to provide full assistance to establish the canonical status of the schismatic Macedonian Orthodox Church in case she recognizes the BOC for its Mother-Church.

Then the Macedonian Church appealed to the Constantinople Patriarchate.

Earlier in Istanbul, the Council of bishops (Synaxis) of the Church of Constantinople, which discussed the issue of Ukrainian autocephaly.
