The actions of the Patriarchate of Constantinople in Ukraine can be called “aggression” and “the seizure of foreign territory,” says Archbishop Kliment.
Fanar repealed the act 1686 of the ancient Kyivan Metropolitanate, which was then not more than a third of the current territory of Ukraine. This was stated in the air of “Radio Svoboda”, the head of the Information Department of the UOC Archbishop of Nizhyn and Pryluky Clement.
According to him, “without any authority, without any justification, the Patriarchate of Constantinople makes a statement, which declares the entire Ukraine as its canonical territory, without reference to history, to the canons.”
“We are talking about the Kyiv metropolis of the XVII century, which occupied one third of the current territory of Ukraine. And then you can claim the whole of Ukraine? And if we are only talking about the Kiev Metropolia in XVII century, then they obviously propose to divide our country on some “old” and “new” territory. This is a clear call for separatism,” said the Bishop.
As reported by PWC, formerly the Hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople Archbishop job (Hecha) stated that according to the decision of the Synod of the Church of Constantinople October 11, repealed by the act of 1686, and from the canonical point of view now “in Ukraine, the Moscow Patriarchate no longer exists.” In turn, Metropolitan of Zaporizhia and Melitopol Luka (Kovalenko) stressed that the decision Fanara on the abolition of the act of 1686 on the transfer of the Kyiv metropolis is anachronistic and does not correspond to the realities of Church life in Ukraine.
