His Holiness Patriarch Kirill opened the first ever meeting of the Holy Synod in Yekaterinburg

    

14 July 2018, in a Spiritual and educational centre “Royal” in Ekaterinburg, situated near the Temple-monument on Blood in honour of All saints resplendent in the Russian land, under the chairmanship of his Holiness Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill began regular session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church, reports patriarhiei.

Opening the meeting, the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church appealed to the members of the Holy Synod of the introductory remarks:

“I warmly welcome the permanent and temporary members of the Holy Synod!

Session of the Holy Synod held in the city of Yekaterinburg. At one time even the efforts of Lord Vincent, this building was constructed specially for the possible residence of the Patriarch and Holy Synod, and today we are holding the first meeting in this building.

We arrived in Yekaterinburg in connection with the anniversary of tragic events — the centenary of the martyrdom of the Royal family. We have quite an extensive program of stay in Yekaterinburg. We will have the opportunity to pray and in Alapayevsk, Yekaterinburg, and who in effect perform a procession to the monastery at Ganina Yama, dedicating these days to the memories of the terrible page of our national history.

Hereby open the session of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church.”

The permanent members of the Holy Synod are: Metropolitan of Kiev and all Ukraine Onufry; the Metropolitan of Krutitsy and Kolomna Juvenal; the Metropolitan of Chisinau and all Moldova Vladimir; Metropolitan of Astana and Kazakhstan Alexander, the head of the Metropolitan district in the Republic of Kazakhstan; Metropolitan of Tashkent and Uzbekistan Vikenty, head of Central Asian Metropolitan district; Metropolitan of St. Petersburg and Ladoga Varsonofy, Chancellor of the Moscow Patriarchate; Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus; Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, Chairman of the Department for external Church relations of the Moscow Patriarchate.

To participate in the summer session (March-August) invited by the Holy Synod: Metropolitan Lazar of Simferopol and Crimea; Metropolitan Ryazan and Mihajlovsky mark; the Archbishop of Anadyr and Chukotka Matthew, Bishop of Daugavpils and Rezekne Alexander; Bishop Nestor of Korsun.
