Hope for the hopeless

The Gospels contain many stories of the world’s best Doctor — the Doctor Who accurately diagnosed and selected a treatment option. Someone He healed with a word, someone did. Sometimes He healed even those who were many kilometers away from Him. However, the Bible describes those occasions when God was patient answered “no”. But this “no” will not last forever. The day will come… However, everything is in order.

Leprosy

Of all diseases known in the East, the worst was leprosy. Incurable, contagious, lead to dire consequences, this disease was a terror even in the bravest of people. The Jews considered leprosy a punishment for sins and called it “a scourge” and “the finger of God.” According to existing law a leper was declared unclean. He died for society. Everything he touched was considered unclean. The air had caught his breath. At the slightest suspicion of the disease people were looking at the clerics to decide his fate. The one who was declared a leper had been separated from his family and banished from the society of Israel. Such a person was doomed to only communicate with their own kind.
Away from friends and family leper bore the curse of this disease. He had to announce his misfortune, and, tearing clothes, shouting to warn of its approach to men running away from it. A mournful cry from the lips of the lonely exile “unclean, Unclean!” caused fear and disgust.

Hope

Where did His Ministry, Christ had many such sufferers, and the news of His healings came up to them, awakening in their hearts a spark of hope. From the time of the prophet Elisha, no one had heard about the cleansing of lepers. The patients have not dared to hope that Jesus will do for them what He did to no man. However, there was among them one man, in whose heart is awakened faith. But he didn’t know how to come to Jesus. Being expelled from the society of their friends and relatives, could he face the Healer? Was doubt: will heal his Christ? Whether He will pay attention to someone you think is suffering from the judgments of God? Not curse if He, like the Pharisees and even the doctors, and drive out from the crowded places? Unfortunate thought that he had heard about Jesus. None who sought His help wasn’t rejected. And the sufferer decided in that whatever was to find Jesus.

To The Savior!

The leper is sent to the Savior. Jesus preaches near the lake, and the people crowding around Him. Standing in the distance, the patient picks up a few words of the Savior. He sees how Christ lays hands on the sick, he sees the lame, blind, paralyzed, dying from various diseases become healthy and praising God for deliverance. His faith is strengthened and he is moving closer and closer to the gathered crowd. All is forgotten: and prohibitions on it, and the safety of people and the fear he inspires. He thinks only of the blessed hope of healing.

This man was a horrible sight. His decomposing body was impossible to watch without disgust. Seeing him, everyone recoiled in horror. They clung to each other, trying to avoid touching him.

Some are trying to stop the leper to approach Jesus. In vain! He sees nothing and hears. He pays no attention to people who are aloud to Express their disgust. He sees only the son of God. He hears only one voice — the one that gives life to the dying. And coming up to Jesus, falls at His feet with a cry: “my God! if you want, you can make me clean” (Luke 5:12).

Jesus answered: “I will; be thou clean,” and laid His hand on him. Change came instantly. The body of the patient became stronger, the nerves sensitive, the muscles firm. Rough, covered with scabs, the skin is characteristic of leprosy patients, healthy-looking matte finish and blush, like a child.

Joy

Though Jesus asked the healed not to tell anyone about what happened, he didn’t even try to hide anything, but publicly praised the strength of the Lord, not realizing that each event strengthened the resolve of the priests and elders to kill Jesus. Mindful of how to be healthy, enjoying a resurgent forces return to the family and circle of friends, healed I could not praise my Doctor.

Why doesn’t God always heal?

Some healing the sick, Jesus immediately gave them the desired blessing. But in the case of leprosy a request for the healing was performed immediately. When we pray for earthly blessings, the answer to our prayer may be given later or the Lord may give us something else — not what we ask. For example, the Apostle Paul, through whom God healed and even raised people from the dead, he suffered physical illness. Here is what he wrote: “…given to me a thorn in the flesh, a messenger of Satan, to buffet me, lest I get exalted. Three times I begged the Lord to take it away from me. But [the Lord] said to me, “sufficient for you My grace, for My power is made perfect in weakness.” And therefore, I will rather boast about my weaknesses, that I may dwell in the power of Christ. Therefore, I am confident in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in oppression for Christ, for when I am weak, then am I strong” (2 Corinthians 12:7-10).

The illness God is always ready to deliver?

But everything is different when we ask for deliverance from sin. The Lord’s desire is to purify us to be His children and give us the power to live a Holy life. And whoever will fall at His feet and say with faith: “Lord, if you want, you can make me clean”, will hear the answer: “I will; be thou clean”. And those whose sin is forgiven, will be happy to meet the Lord when He comes to take the redeemed to the place where “God will wipe away every tear from their eyes, and death will not be already; neither crying, nor cry, illnesses any more will not be” (Revelation 21:4).
