On Sunday evening, August 5, 2018, in the centre of Odessa, a group of right-wing radicals tried to make hooligan actions against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, informs a portal “Orthodox life”.
The attackers came to the temple in honor of the Tikhvin icon of the Mother of God to St. Andrew monastery, located in the heart of the city. As reported by the Orthodox Odessa, thugs tried to write hate graffiti, in advance having prepared for this stencil and spray paint, but was stopped by the parishioners, who at this time together with their children – pupils of the Sunday school returned from a bike trip that would depend on Odessa.
The faithful headed by the rector of the Church prevented the provocateurs and the radicals caused the priest’s injuries. And all this happened in front of children and women, who are not afraid of thugs, waving their fists and shouting threats, and came to the defense of the Church.
After this failed provocation of the right-wing radicals on the scene, the police were called, where staff recorded the facts of illegal actions and took statements from priests and parishioners.
