The delegation of the UOC, the Council of Europe
In Strasbourg the representatives of the UOC was held the event devoted to 1030 anniversary of the Baptism of Rus.
October 9, 2018 in the Council of Europe (Strasbourg) held a festive event in honor of the 1030-th anniversary of the Baptism of Rus’, writes the Information-enlightenment Department of the UOC.
The event began with an official videoprivate his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry. Then Baryshevsky Bishop Victor, head of the delegation of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, addressed the audience with words of congratulations.
“The day of the Baptism of Kievan Rus in our country is marked as a special date in the Church and secular calendar. Secular historiography, it is hard not to notice the importance of this event, as if it has not been evaluated from different points of view, – said the Hierarch. – The Slavic peoples, having accepted Christianity, entered the family of European Nations and managed to join the achievements of European culture. Celebrating this event, have left traces in the history of the whole of Europe, we want to share the beautiful pages of our Christian life with you all.”
After the official speeches, all could see an exhibition of artifacts illustrating the spiritual heritage of the Kievan state. There was also a traditional Ukrainian song, and at the end of the program was the winner of the contest “Voice of country-7” Archpriest Alexander Klimenko.
