In the one-hundredth anniversary of the death of Holy martyrs Elisabeth and Barbara took the service at their relics in Gethsemane


July 18, 2018, the day of memory of Grand Duchess Elizabeth and nun Barbara, vicar of the Eastern American diocese, Bishop Nicholas of Manhattan celebrated the divine Liturgy at the monastery of Saint Mary Magdalene in Gethsemane, where repose the relics of the Holy martyrs.

It was concelebrated by head of the Russian ecclesiastical mission in Jerusalem Archimandrite Alexander (elisov), and the clergy of the Mission, the head of the Ecclesiastical mission of the Russian Church Abroad, Archimandrite Roman (Krasovskii) and the clergy of the monastery of St. Mary Magdalene, as well as pilgrims in Holy orders of the Russian, Ukrainian, Serbian, Bulgarian and Czech Orthodox Churches, reports patriarhiei.

Praying at the Liturgy were mother superior of the Gethsemane convent abbess Elisabeth (Schmelz) to the sisters and the abbess of the ascension the mount of Olives convent hegumeness Varvara (in Russian) with her sisters, the nuns of the Gorny convent, and numerous pilgrims.


Traditionally, the divine service was attended by his Beatitude Patriarch Theophilos III of Jerusalem, who was accompanied by Archbishop Antagonisti Nektarios, the representative of the Patriarch of Jerusalem to the Patriarch of Constantinople, and the referent of His Beatitude Archimandrite Bartholomew.

At the end of the Liturgy before the relics of Saint Martyr Grand Duchess Elizabeth bishops of Jerusalem and Russian Orthodox Churches and the Cathedral clergy a prayer service was held.
