In the Sophia of Kyiv opened an exhibition “Monastery gardens”


In Kiev will show samples of garden-Park art

Visitors can learn about the symbolic meaning of the garden in the Christian landscape art in Ukraine.

5 July in the exhibition halls of the National reserve “Sophia of Kyiv” opened the exhibition “Monastery gardens”, according to UAZMI.

Visitors to the Museum will present prints with images of a secular, regular and landscape parks 17-19 centuries, the origins of which lie in the monastery gardens. Also the exhibition will show examples of herbaria and medicinal herbalists that will allow you to understand what healing plants to grow, the monks in the so-called “monastic garden”, the predecessors of the pharmaceutical gardens, which existed in Ukraine in the 17th or 18th century.

The exhibition aims to reveal the symbolism of the monastery garden because of its importance dates back to the biblical story of Adam and eve.

“Lay monastery gardens, the monks tried to recreate Paradise on earth, to create a cell for a godly life and privacy, however, and a model farm, which is accumulating knowledge about gardening and, eventually, became the basis for the “green boom” of the late Renaissance and the Baroque,” say the organizers in a press release.

The exhibition is open for visitors until the end of August.
