Today, 3 December 2018, it was reported that in Zhytomyr were searched in cathedrals, the diocesan office, churches and homes of the priests. “In the investigation of criminal proceedings initiated under article 161 of the Criminal code of Ukraine (violation of equality of citizens depending on their racial, national belonging or attitude to religion — ed.), December 3 employees of the investigation Department of GUNP in Zhytomyr region together with employees of SBU 8 carried out the authorized searches in the Kiev, Zhitomir, Ovruch and Korosten. Searches are carried out in buildings, facilities, and private homes”, – said the press-Secretary of GUNP Alla Vashchenko.

In the management of the security Service of Ukraine in Zhytomyr region confirmed the participation of staff of SBU in the searches, which is carried out by employees of investigatory management of GUNP.

Rector of Holy Transfiguration Cathedral Archpriest Ovruch Anatoliy Kaplun for Information and educational Department of UOC-MP spoke about the details of the search in the temple:

“Came in this morning, showed some strange court order, took the keys, the Church was closed and the whole day looking for printed materials… the Search was carried out everywhere, including the altar, was in the basement, lower, upper temples, boilers, etc. checked. Spent the whole day looking and found nothing”.

According to the priest, among those conducting the search were members of the security service and the district police Department.

“The diocesan office was searched, too, although it had no right. Even according to their regulations they had permission only to search the temple,” he said.

Recall, November 30, SBU carried out searches in the territory of the farms of the Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra. The Abbot of the monastery called such acts an attempt of political pressure on him.
