The honorary position was held by the famous theologian and Hierarch of the Patriarchate of Constantinople.
At the International Institute of the Athonite heritage elected the new honorary President, reports the website of the Steklov mathematical Institute.
They became known petrolog and theologian, Dioknisi Metropolitan Kallistos (ware).
“I am with happiness and gratitude are agreeing to become honorary President of the International Institute of the Athonite heritage,” said the Hierarch in a letter addressed to the Board MIAN.
Until April 2018 honorary Chairman MIAN was a well-known researcher of the history of mount Athos, doctor of historical Sciences, Professor Anthony-Emil Tachiaos, died 10 April this year.
“Metropolitan Kallistos has done a lot and continues to do to promote the heritage of mount Athos in the world, – said the General Director of the Steklov mathematical Institute in Ukraine Serhiy Shumylo. – Close friendship and cooperation with him we are continuing more than one year, he is a member of the editorial Board of published by the Steklov mathematical Institute of the scientific almanac “the Athonite heritage”, together with him, repeatedly conducted various scientific and educational activities and all of our projects and initiatives has always found a ready response and support. Therefore, the election of Metropolitan Kallistos honorary Chairman of our scientific-public organization was a natural continuation of the fruitful cooperation.”
Dioknisi Metropolitan Kallistos (ware), Professor of theology, University of Oxford, head of the Board of Directors of the Institute for Orthodox Christian studies in Cambridge and honorary doctor of Church postgraduate and doctoral school named saints Cyril and Methodius. His most famous book is The Orthodox Church (Orthodox Church), first published in 1963 and reprinted several times in different languages.
