More than 1000 pilgrims arrived at the celebration of the 625-th anniversary of the Konevsky monastery


The festive divine service on the island of Konevets

The faithful honoured the memory of venerable Arseny Konevsky and celebrated the anniversary of the monastery.

On the Konevets island in the Ladoga lake hosted celebrations marking the 625th anniversary of the Konevsky Christmas-mother of God monastery, according to patriarhiei.

The festive divine service prayed the bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church and representatives of the Finnish Autonomous Orthodox Church

At the celebration on the island of Konevets arrived about 1200 pilgrims.

On the morning of 25 June, the hierarchs led the divine Liturgy under the open sky from virgin’s Nativity Cathedral of the monastery. Then there was a procession with the relics of St. Arseny Konevsky to the chapel of the apparitions of the blessed virgin.

“Today we are opening the jubilee year of the 625-th anniversary of the Konevsky Christmas-mother of God monastery. It’s not the holiday itself, and its eve,” said Bishop Ignatius, Abbot of the monastery, noting that the celebration will last until 2019.

The Konevsky Christmas-mother of God monastery was founded on the island in the Western part of Ladoga lake the monk Arseniy Konevsky in 1393.
