Moscow cultural: a lot of Tolstoy, Prokofiev and what to expect from the new season

Anniversaries of writers, Prokofiev’s ballets, arias about war and peace and discovery in contemporary art – lecture “Live chat” opened a new season of meetings with speakers who told about the most interesting cultural events of Moscow in 2018-2019.

  • Tutta Larsen: “I don’t care what car there goes the priest”
  • Lecture Pravmir “Live chat”: o important no publication
  • Lecture “Live chat” invites you to talk about classic literature
  • Full audience and Dostoevsky in 3D: as the lecture “Live chat” brought people from online to offline

In the “Live communication” this year is sure to be a lot of Tolstoy

Mikhail Pavlovets, a teacher of literature, Lyceum Higher school of Economics, candidate of philological Sciences

It seems to me a somewhat controversial idea, that when we read a book or watch a movie, we enter into a dialogue with a work of art, because to be honest, a movie or book is still not quite a dialogue, this is a dumb text. He comes alive only when we call to him.

Mikhail Pavlovets

And then we meet each other to discuss what they read, and start a real dialogue – not with the film, not the score, not the owner, but with a live person. Dispute eye heat, to experience together the same emotions and face different. And for this need and our literary lectures in the “Live communication”, which this year we will carry out in accordance with the literary calendar.

In the “Live communication” this year is sure to be a lot of Tolstoy, for example, the lecture Dmitry bak in October at the “Anna Karenina”. Will be a lecture by Mikhail Pavlovets on the poetry of Mayakovsky, in November, will be talking about Turgenev, and in December will hold a round table on Solzhenitsyn. In addition, we continue to work with Dostoevsky, and we have started a major project with the library. Dostoevsky called “Dostoyevsky 3D”that will allow us to discuss the writer from all sides.

By the way, can you tell the amazing stories associated with the centenary of the death of Leo Tolstoy, many do not believe this to be true, but it was.

I was head of the Department in one pedagogical University. And once, when a colleague and I stood and smoked, called the rector and said, from the Department of education received strict orders to note the Department the centenary of the death of Tolstoy. I immediately said: will there be funding? “Within budget”, – answered me. This means “spend all at own expense”.

Well, I say, it planned an exhibition of books dedicated to the centenary of the death of Tolstoy, public lecture hear that the rector writes. I continue: a solemn meeting of the Department, the centennial of Tolstoy, Hiking staff chair barefoot in Yasnaya Polyana, in General, uttered five or six points.

And in September I appeared in the workplace, come to the Dean’s, and his round eyes. He shows me the order from the Department of education – this order with stamp and signature – where it says: “the Department of literature to perform the following activities” – and the fourth or fifth paragraph stated: “Hiking barefoot employees of the Department of the Yasnaya Polyana”. I didn’t have enough of these jokes – I put this order in social networks, writing that, they say, will now have to meet.

Started. Got a call from Yasnaya Polyana: “we are waiting for you” – Nov 10, of course, the day of the death of Tolstoy. Got a call from “Moskovskiy Komsomolets” – Tula: “We have learned that your Department has prepared an interesting event, and I want to cover”. Called society backdash – it turns out there is this: “We will go with you, please update us when we go where”. The last straw was the material that in Moscow killed himself a student because they are forced to hike barefoot. Since I don’t like anniversaries of the deaths of great writers and their celebrated only in a narrow circle…

In 2019 we celebrate the anniversary of Pushkin, in September, it was 190 years since the birth of Tolstoy, in July of 2018 was 125 years Mayakovsky, and in March celebrated 150 years of Maxim Gorky.

In December 2018 – the centenary of the birth of Alexander Solzhenitsyn. The country will celebrate it at the state level, although the figure of Solzhenitsyn is very contradictory to it’s different attitudes, but that can not be denied is that Solzhenitsyn was powerful, really powerful phenomenon in the literature.

Another hero of the day – Ivan Andreevich Krylov: we celebrate the 250th anniversary of his birth. It seems to be a children’s writer, but it is interesting for us because, first, his biography is the story of a Russian epicurean, salesiana, and secondly, of course, he is the Creator of live speech of Russian literature, and then – Pushkin and literature spoke understandable to today’s student language.

Important date – the 200th anniversary of Turgenev, the founder of Russian fiction. In the Russian literature is great literature, but very little fiction, that is, works light, well-read, but entertaining and intelligent that do not humiliate the mind and do not offend the senses of the reader. Here Turgenev is the real quality fiction that deals with an interesting problem, and it makes a tear shed and in the back of his head to scratch, and laugh.

What we imagine when we talk about ballet Prokofiev

Marina Lebed, head of the center of musical projects, HSE, lecturer-musicologist, music critic

In the lecture hall of “Live communication” this season we’ll talk about Opera and ballet traditions of the twentieth century, Stravinsky and Prokofiev, Shostakovich and Bernstein, view “fresh” productions. After all, we often tense up if we see the playbill of the major theatrical works of the twentieth century. Learn more about this music, its laws and language, we discover this repertoire too. Believe me, he deserves it.

Marina Swan

Talk about what awaits us in season 2018-2019, about the events in the musical life of the capital that are worth paying attention to.

First, of course, one of the major autumn events – the festival of Prokofiev in my favorite musical theatre of Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko. Rarely when one theater area so diverse are the works of one composer! What we imagine when we talk about ballet Prokofiev? Of course, “Romeo and Juliet”. But we will show “Cinderella” and “the tale of the stone flower” Prokofiev’s last ballet.

But the culmination, of course, is the renewal of the Opera “War and peace”. How cool that in the jubilee year of Tolstoy and in the centenary year of the Opera Studio of the Stanislavsky and Nemirovich-Danchenko theatre gives such large-scale production, one of the greatest Russian operas.

The answer Bolshoi theatre? In the main theatre of the country the operas of Rossini: Il Barbiere di Siviglia, familiar to many, and interesting Opera, which we know little, “the Journey to Reims”. In addition, there is Great and interesting ballet history: in addition to the classics of the genre, “don Quixote”, “Swan lake” and so on, is a Great evening of one-act ballets, among which are – unexpected “Parsley” Stravinsky. I’ve never seen this ballet going on the Russian scene and I think it is worth a look.

The most interesting project of the Philharmonic society – international festival of actual music “Other space”, which will be held in late November for the sixth time. This festival shows classic of the XX century, which for a number of reasons in our country is not sound. In addition, this year during the festival a competition for young composers to write works for symphonic orchestra. Score-the winners will feature in the festival concerts. It is not just the actual music – it’s something in the literal sense of the word was written yesterday, and today is fulfilled.

Aria on war and peace from the Baroque and a little bit modern

Anna media, producer of the concert hall “charge”

And here is our room in the “charge” was opened. We saw a completely finished room, built on the European model. At the opening on 5 September Pletnev played the Fifth Symphony by Tchaikovsky. The applause, the silence, and suddenly a knock: it’s behind the conductor, somewhere far below, the girl entered the room and comes on the heels. So with acoustics it is also all right.

Anna Media

If you even skim the poster, you will see a lot of bright names: Gidon Kremer with Kremerata Baltica, Joyce Didonato singer of the direction of the Baroque, which is worldwide, by the way, gives master classes, after which such music is heard completely differently. Joyce Didonato will bring to the program “War and peace” where she took Aria about the war and the world of the Baroque and a little bit modern.

Of the lesser known names are – Andrew Parrot, concert on 25 September, the “St. John Passion” by Bach. This brand distinctively British story. Andrew Parrot – English conductor of generations of Gardiner, Norrington, of those who began the movement of historical performances and one of the first took a violin with the vein, and not with metal strings. But from the beginning he was the most radical. One day he read an article where was written that Bach’s theological writings were not of the choir.

We are accustomed to the fact that “mass” by Bach, the “Passions…” great composition, and there is always a chorus, but the author picked up the documents and the number of singers proved that choir Bach was not and that the choral numbers performed by the ensemble of soloists. Parrot decided to test and performed major works by Bach without the choir. And it is at some time turned historical performance.

Art is always about us

Olga Poluektova, art historian, curator of the direction “Art” lecture hall “Live chat”

This year in the “Live communication” we plan to talk a lot about contemporary art. It is today the most controversial topic. Some say that this is not art, others – that finally became interested to live and that’s the true. With our speakers we will discuss what contemporary art can tell us about ourselves, because how we would to it may concern, art is always about us.

Olga Poluektova

In the Pushkin Museum until October 14, is a wonderful exhibition of Venetian painting of the XVIII century very interesting and the main exhibition of the cross year of culture of Japan and Russia – paintings and drawings of the Edo period.

At the Institute of Russian realist art is a very interesting exhibition of the artist fifties and sixties of the twentieth century, George of Nyssa.

In the Ivanovo hall of the Russian state library from 25 to 30 September, will be the fine art and design, will be a major commercial gallery. Promise to bring the masterpieces from El Greco to Goncharova. And these are things that we may never see because they are privately owned and sold in private collections. This is a unique opportunity where you can not use it.
