Museum-archives of the Holy Trinity Alexander Nevsky Lavra became an associate member of the Union of museums of Russia, the Synodal Department for monasteries and monasticism.
The decision was taken at a General meeting of the Union of museums of Russia, held on may 31 during the international festival “Intermuseum – 2018” in Moscow.
The meeting was attended by representatives of more than 200 museums from all over Russia. Held a meeting of Mikhail Piotrovsky, the President of the Union of museums of Russia and General Director of the State Hermitage. Originally considered by the Presidium of the Union of the application of the Museum-archive of laurels for membership under the rules was put to a General vote. By a majority of votes of the meeting participants, the Museum was admitted as an associate member of the Union of museums of Russia.
Established in 2001, the Union of museums, an umbrella organization of more than 400 museums in the country. It is a platform for sharing knowledge and discussing professional issues. The Union assists museums in their endeavors, seeks to improve the quality of professional work of museums, helping to defend their interests before public authorities, is an active participant in discussions on legal acts concerning the activity of museums of Russia.
The monastery Museum-archives membership, Russia’s only organization that brings together museums as a public organization, was an act of official recognition by the Museum community.

Museum-drevlehranilische Alexander Nevsky Lavra, which opened its doors in December 2013, the year of the 300th anniversary of the monastery, is situated in the historic premises of the sacristy of the Alexander Nevsky Lavra. The permanent exhibition of the Museum, decorated by 2017, presents to visitors a collection of Church antiquities, among which are icons and religious paintings, vestments and liturgical items as well as decorative-applied art, historical documents and photographs.
