Metropolitan Hilarion (Alfeyev)
In the Russian Orthodox Church stressed that the Constantinople Patriarchate Filaret remains the initiator of the split.
This was stated in interview to the Greek Agency “Romfea” Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk (Alfeyev), who arrived in Athens to participate in the International Assembly of Orthodoxy.
“Meeting with four Ukrainian hierarchs, Patriarch Bartholomew is very clearly said that no legitimacy will not be split, and this is an important statement, – said Metropolitan Hilarion. – I very much hope that a solution to the problems of the Ukrainian division will be exclusively canonical way”.
According to the Hierarch, the important fact of the conversation, which took place at the Phanar, is that Patriarch Bartholomew stressed that the schism is schism, and Philaret Denisenko he sees the initiator of the split.
“Filaret Denisenko for 25 years in a variety of ways of deceiving people – said the Bishop. Now he inspires people that the Patriarchate of Constantinople have almost will give autocephaly to its structure. And he says, well, of course, we will not accept anything below the Patriarchy – any kind of metropolis or the Archdiocese. He says: “I am the Patriarch will remain the Patriarch.” Think that’s the main thing that interests him – that he has not taken away the Patriarchal cowl, which he illegally put on”.
Metropolitan Hilarion stated that the Orthodox Church no less than Constantinople, interested in the fact that the dissenters returned to the fold of the Church.
“We believe that the way to return to Raskolnikov opened, – said the Hierarch. – Moreover, as recently as December last year, Filaret Denisenko addressed to the bishops of the Russian Orthodox Church led by Patriarch Kirill with a call to mutually forgive the sins of the past and embark on the path of dialogue. Our Church responded very positively to this letter. But as soon as it became known, somebody said Philaret, and the next day he publicly disavowed everything that was written in his letter. This means that in Ukraine there are forces that do not want to return the schismatics to the Church in a canonical way, but rather want to legitimize the split”.
Earlier it was reported that the ROC is going to discuss with representatives of panara the situation in Ukraine. The meeting, which will take place in Moscow, scheduled for July 9.
In mid-April, Poroshenko appealed to the Constantinople Patriarch Bartholomew to grant the Tomos of autocephaly of the Church in Ukraine and announced the creation of a Single Local Church. The Verkhovna Rada supported the President.
