On the forum in Belarus discussed the organization of the internal life of the monasteries


The conference was dedicated to understanding the daily activities of the monks

Monastic conference “Organisation of the internal life of the monasteries” was held in Polotsk Spaso-Euphrosyne monastery of the Belarusian Orthodox Church June 21-22.

The conference was dedicated to understanding the daily activities of the monks as the system time distribution for liturgical prayer, work and secret of stay, according to “Monastic Herald”.

The Bureau of the conference was chaired by Metropolitan of Minsk and Zaslavl Pavel, Patriarchal Exarch of all Belarus.

On 22 June the participants of the conference offered prayers during the divine Liturgy in kresto-Vozdvizhenskiy Cathedral of the Saviour and St. Euphrosyne, which was performed by bishops and Maringorskaya Borisov Veniamin, Lida and Smorgon porphyry, abbots of monasteries and the Belarusian guests in Holy orders.

After the service, a solemn opening of the conference.

Metropolitan Pavel addressed the audience with welcoming speech in which he stressed the need to preserve the patristic ascetical tradition, and reminded how important it is for monastics inner focus and prayer focus the mind.

The Hierarch said: before monk did not go beyond the monastery walls and in the privacy made the feat, and today, if there is no internal good of the monastic dispensation, even staying the same walls, through the Internet, he in one moment can leave his cell, the monastery and wander the world, wasting his inner world. That is why the daily routine of a monk should include strict regulation of Internet access.

Following the presentations, participants made the following conclusions:

• people who have chosen the monastic way, to live so, as required by the gospel and patristic monastic tradition. First of all, the monk must strive and succeed in genuine love to the Lord according to the commandment of Christ the Savior to “Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul, and with all thy strength, and with all your mind, and your neighbor as yourself” (LK. 10:27). At the core of each monk of the Charter is the love of God and neighbor;

• the monastery should be a place of prayer, where the monks are involved daily in services, prayer in the cell, studying the works of the Holy fathers, work on the obedience for the good of the monastery. All of this is a means by which the monk improving spiritually and seeks to be like Christ.

• prayer of the monk and the personal example of his pious life in accordance with Evangelical doctrine – the most valuable thing a monk can give people living in the world. Monk preaches Christ with his life. To lead to Christ may be the only one who sincerely believes in God and always in prayer. In the monastery should be created conditions for a spiritual life. Important in this has a well-organized daily routine.

The forum was attended by hierarchs of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, abbots, abbess and sisters of the Belarusian Orthodox Church, representatives of the Polish Orthodox Church, mount Athos and the Russian Ecclesiastical Mission in Jerusalem.

Informed Metropolitan Anthony explained why there is a monk.
