Orthodox Christians celebrate Demetrius Saturday

A special all souls ‘ day – Saturday Demetrius Orthodox Church notes November 3, 2018.

Day of remembrance of the dead on Saturday on the eve of the memory day of St. Demetrius (November 8, n. V.) was erected after the battle of Kulikovo, which occurred on the feast of the Nativity of the blessed virgin Mary in 1380, according to Thomas.

Initially, finding of the Holy Prince Dimitry Donskoy, this day commemorated all the Russian soldiers who died on the Kulikovo field. In fact, there is also another meaning of the name Sabbath, “Demetrius”.

Over time, Demetrius Saturday was the day when we commemorate all “from ages (since the beginning of time) dead” Christians.

Demetrius Saturday – the last Saturday in 2018. Next Saturday will be celebrated on March 2, 2019.
