The speaker of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich believes that the emergence of the Declaration of resistance to oppression suggests that the people themselves are to protect their Church.

“People have a right to defend their position, are entitled to protection of his Church. It is a basic right of every person and citizen, and those rights must be protected and should have the right to their realization”, – said in comments the SPM, the Deputy head of the Synodal Department of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church’s external relations, Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich.

“In my opinion, in the current crisis conditions is formed, I would say, Orthodox civil society. There is increased activity of the laity. The laity are not afraid to take responsibility for the fate of the Church. It’s very good,” said the speaker of the Church.

The priest recalled: “the Church is the Body of Christ, and we – the particles of the Body. After all, if there is pain in the body, it feels every, even the smallest cell in the body. “Bear the burdens of each other, and so fulfill the law of Christ”” (Gal. 6, 2).

Recall that in the network appeared the Ukrainian civil discussion, which stated that the Ukrainian people do not support the actions of the authorities against the Ukrainian Orthodox Church considers them unconstitutional. The head of the legal Department of the UOC Archpriest Oleksandr bakhov believes that this initiative was a response of the people of Ukraine on the oppression of the Church by the authorities.

As reported earlier, the SPM, the network has begun collecting signatures for “Declaration of resistance to oppression”, which every Ukrainian can declare his disagreement with the actions of the authorities against the Church and to speak out in defense of the UOC.
