The President said that changes in the law consistent with the principles of freedom of religion and equality of all faiths.

22 December 2018 Petro Poroshenko has signed anti-Catholic bill No. 5309. This is the website of the Government of the President.

“President Petro Poroshenko has signed the law of Ukraine “On amendments to the law of Ukraine “On freedom of conscience and religious organizations” regarding the name of religious organizations, which are included in the structure (is part of) a religious organization, the governing center of which is located outside of Ukraine…”, – stated in the message.

“People have a constitutional right to free choice of religion. These changes in the law to create the best conditions for the realization of such a right for those who will decide to what Orthodox jurisdiction, to belong … Either to the newly established Autocephalous Orthodox Church of Ukraine, either to the Church, which insists on maintaining its relationship and dependence on the ROC,” said the President, signing a law.

According to the Head of the state, changes in the law consistent with the principles of freedom of religion and equality of all religions, no restrictions of constitutional rights of citizens will not.

December 20, the deputies 240 votes supported the draft law No. 5309, which obliges the UOC to change its name. As reported by the SPM, the head of the Legal Department of the UOC Archpriest Oleksandr bakhov said that any attempt by state authorities to force religious Association (Church) to change its name are illegal and violate international law.
