The only purpose of a Christian is eternal salvation, said his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onufry.

The Church teaches man how to go his way for the purpose for which the Lord had called him. About August 17, told his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry after the service on the occasion of the 4 anniversary of his enthronement.

The Hierarch thanked the congregation for their prayers and support, and also told what is the mission of the Church.

“Man goes all the time, said the Archbishop. – We walk down the street, which is called the road of eternal life. This street has its own rules. If people do not know these rules, it often undergoes some kind of disaster, or falls from this path, she leaves him. We teach people how to walk this path, to not stray from him and to reach the purpose for which God has called us”.

His Beatitude recalled the main goal in the life of every Christian.

“I have very often asked: “What were your plans when you were elected?”, – said his Beatitude Onufry. – Honestly, I have no plans was not. I didn’t plan to be where I am now. It is a secular fashion is to set goals. We have one goal, always, one plan, one direction, one vector is eternal salvation. If you look at our predecessors, I think they put this main goal – not to fall away from salvation, not to fall out of the ship of the Church”.

The Primate drew attention to the fact that the mistake is to assume that people care about the Church and unable to save Her.

“This should not be done – said the Lord. – About the Church we should not care, should we care about ourselves the most. As a Savior when He carried the Cross, the people cried. The Lord said: “weep Not for Me, weep for yourselves, for your children”. We should weep about themselves and their offspring, their brothers and sisters that we have not fallen away from the Church of Christ. The Church nobody will be able to destroy, and if we backslide, we die”.

However, his Beatitude Onufry called on the faithful not to despair, seeing the turmoil occurring in the world.

“Vanity, war, rumors of war, disasters, disaster – it reminds us that we are sitting on a powder keg, – said the Primate. And the barrel should explode. And how quickly that time comes depends on us. Not from God, and it depends on us – we are the instigators for this barrel. If we do not ignite it with his sin, it will stand there for many more years. If we are going to sin, sin is like fire, scorching man and his soul, set fire to the gunpowder, and we will perish”.

17 Aug 2018 in the assumption Cathedral of Kiev-Pechersk Lavra made a festive divine Liturgy on the occasion of the anniversary of the enthronement of his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry.
