The Church of Bulgaria against the pan-Orthodox Council, Ukraine

The Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church did not support the proposal of the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill to discuss the topic of Ukrainian autocephaly by the pan-Orthodox level.

At the next meeting of the Synod considered a letter from Rin. No. 599 of 03.10.18 Moscow and all Russia Patriarch Kirill, in which he notifies you of alarm events associated with the life of the Church Canon of the diocese of the UOC, the official website of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church.

For consideration of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church established a special Commission of the Holy Synod of the BOC.

The Synod heard oral proposal of Luchanskogo of Metropolitan Gabriel, who made a draft decision of the Synod “On the issue of granting autocephaly to the UOC SV. The Synod of the BOC-BP believes that it is necessary to convene a pan-Orthodox Council, which will decide this question.”

The pan-Orthodox Council was supported by three member’s vote. Opposed by eight members of the Synod, including the Patriarch Neofit. Two party vote, expressed special opinion on this issue.

Thus, the Synod did not accept the draft decision proposed by Metropolitan Gabriel.

As reported by the SPM, the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill has sent letters to the heads of all the Orthodox Churches with the proposal to initiate a pan-Orthodox discussion of the situation around the Church life of Ukraine.

Earlier, Patriarch Neofit has repeatedly condemned the actions of the schismatics in Ukraine. In 2015, the Holy Synod of the Bulgarian Orthodox Church sent to the President of Ukraine a letter with a request to protect the rights of the canonical Orthodox Church in Ukraine and its temples from the violent seizure of the “unrecognized” UOC-KP.
