UOC commented on the request of Petro Poroshenko to his Beatitude Onufry to assist in the return of detained Ukrainian sailors.
The Ukrainian Orthodox Church constantly talks about the release of Ukrainian soldiers on the line of the Church. On 9 December, said in an interview with TASS head of Information Department of the UOC Archbishop of Nizhyn and Pryluky Clement, commenting on the conversion of Peter Poroshenko to the Primate of the UOC with a request to facilitate the release of Ukrainian sailors.
“The President of Ukraine addressed his Beatitude Metropolitan Onufry of such a request, the – said Lord Clement. – Strictly speaking, the Church’s participation in the process of returning our soldiers that are beyond the control of the territory of Ukraine and in Russia, happens all the time. His Beatitude repeatedly addressed such requests to Patriarch Kirill and the Church of the lines extend negotiations so that you humanitarian way to bring all citizens of Ukraine on our territory.”
At the same time, the Hierarch said that “the results of the treatment yet.”
“While we are working, and this problem is announced. Patriarch [Kirill] is very interested in the efforts of the Church brought its fruit, so we expect that there will be some results,” – said Lord Clement, adding that the UOC before actively participated in the Ukrainians return home, for example, when the exchange of prisoners in the Donbass.

As reported by the SPM, 9 Dec Petro Poroshenko has appealed to Metropolitan Onufry with a request to facilitate the release of Ukrainian sailors detained by Russia in the sea of Azov.
