The Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church has proposed to debate the situation in Ukraine among the primates of the local Churches. This is the official website of the Moscow Patriarchate with reference to the text of the statement adopted on 14 September at a meeting of the Holy Synod of the Russian Orthodox Church in Moscow.

“Aware that what is happening is a danger to the entire world of Orthodoxy, turning in this hour of need for support to local Autocephalous Churches, urge the primates imbued with an understanding of our common responsibility for the fate of the world Orthodoxy and to initiate fraternal pan-Orthodox discussion on the Church situation in Ukraine”, – quotes the edition of the document fragment.

As reported by the media, the DECR Chairman Metropolitan Hilarion of Volokolamsk, the Russian Orthodox Church “are deeply convinced that if this issue will be resolved not unilaterally by the Patriarchate of Constantinople, and in fraternal relations a solution is found and everyone is calm, all will reconcile and will contribute to the overcoming of division.”

Following the meeting, the Synod also decided to suspend the commemoration of the Primate of the Russian Orthodox Church during the divine service of Patriarch Bartholomew of Constantinople.

September 7, the Patriarchate of Constantinople “in preparation for the granting of autocephaly of the Orthodox Church in Ukraine” has announced that it has appointed its Exarch in Kyiv Archbishop Pamphylian Daniel from the USA and Bishop Hilarion of Edmonton Canada.
