The Holy Synod: Patriarch Bartholomew does not have the right to convene in Ukraine Church


The Holy Synod of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church, which held a meeting December 7, 2018 in the Holy Dormition Kyiv-Pechersk Lavra under the chairmanship of his Beatitude Metropolitan of Kyiv and all Ukraine Onuphrius, noted that the Patriarch of Constantinople has no canonical right to convene any meeting in Ukraine (minutes No. 41). The Holy Synod said that Patriarch Bartholomew does not have the right to call for such meetings of bishops of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church.

The planned “unification Council” is considered an illegal meeting, since it will be attended by representatives of schismatic groups.

In this regard, and based on the Resolution of the Council of bishops dated November 13, 2018, the bishops, clergy, monastics and laity of the Ukrainian Orthodox Church to participate in the so-called unification Council is not blessed, according to documents on the decisions of the Synod.

The Holy Synod especially notes that no one from among the clergy or laity is not authorized to represent the Ukrainian Orthodox Church in this meeting.
