The Patriarchate of Constantinople allowed their priests to remarry

A historic decision was made by the Holy Synod of the Orthodox Church of Constantinople: the priests of this local Church will now be allowed to re-marry, reports Interfax-Religion.

Veropedia, however, is only valid in two cases: if a priest is widowed or if the wife herself left him, said on Monday the Greek Church news Agency “Romfea”.

The document noted that permission for a second marriage will not be given unless the priest himself leaves a wife and wants to marry another. Each case should be considered by the diocesan Bishop especially.

The decision to verebrate priests of the Patriarchate of Constantinople had proposed to implement in 2016 at the Cathedral of Crete, but all the Local Orthodox Churches then opposed.
