The Primate of the Church of Cyprus calls for preventing split due to the Ukrainian issue

    

The Church of Cyprus is concerned about recent events in the Church life in Ukraine and calls for the prevention of schism in Ecumenical Orthodoxy. It was said to the Ambassador of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus Boris Gumenyuk at the meeting with the Primate of the Orthodox Church of Cyprus his Beatitude Archbishop Chrysostomos II on 26 September 2018, according to the portal “Orthodox life” with reference to Churchofcyprus.org.cy.

“The Primate of the Church of Cyprus… expressed their vision and concerns about recent events in the Ukrainian Church, calling for preventing split, which would have prevented all unity of Orthodoxy”, – said in the message.

The Archbishop confirmed that the Church of Cyprus can become a “bridge to resolve the current abnormal situation”.

At the same time on the website of the Embassy of Ukraine in the Republic of Cyprus it is reported that during the interview with Borys Humeniuk “Archbishop of Cyprus, Chrysostomos II has expressed support to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people, stressed the right of Ukraine as an independent state to have its own independent Autocephalous Church.”
