THE UN DOES NOT RECOGNIZE THE DESTRUCTION OF THE IRAQI GENOCIDE OF CHRISTIANS BY ISIS

Advocate for human rights and activist Amal Clooney, who married George Clooney urged the United Nations to protect the victims of genocide in Iraq. Speaking on Thursday at the UN, she warned that there may be a situation similar to the genocide in Rwanda, if member States will not take action against ISIS.

“Mass graves in Iraq are not protected and not exhumers. The witnesses fled, and no action of ISIS in any part of the world not brought to trial for international crimes, says Amal Clooney. So, I appeal to you, the Iraqi government, and to you, the member States of the UN, asking why? Why is nothing done?”

This is an important question. The U.S. and the European Union acknowledged that ISIS is committing genocide against Christians and Yazidis in Iraq. The United Nations still did not.

And in the US continuing hot debate over the entry of refugees into the country. This week President trump signed a new Executive order replacing the previous one, which was published a few weeks ago and caused a lot of controversy. One big difference: the new order does not give special preference to Christians and other religious minorities. However, the government may grant asylum if the denial of refugee status will lead to some so-called “undue hardship”, for example, for Christians and others facing genocide by ISIL.
