Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv Sofronii
Metropolitan Sofroniy said that wished Petro Poroshenko not fully trust the Greeks.
Metropolitan of Cherkasy and Kaniv Sofronii fears that Tomos could turn into a complete dependence on the Greeks. About it back in November told the channel “Real time”, reports “Radio Freedom”.
“From my point of view there is warning and danger. It happens to be so that our Tomos will turn into dependence, complete dependence on the Greeks, says the Lord Sofrony as a long-time supporter of autocephaly. – About it nobody says <….>. So my point is this: it is necessary to look”.
About their fears, Metropolitan Sofroniy also reported to the President Petro Poroshenko, during a meeting with him in Cherkassy.
“I wished him, because it wasn’t a warning from me, just wish that he didn’t quite trust the Greeks, – said the Hierarch. – We were once taught in the Academy that the Greeks flattering to this day. So we were told. So here you need to be very careful and very, well, act reasonably to avoid recriminations. Now its all blame, well, not all, some.”
Also, the Metropolitan Sophronios noted that if the Church will get Tomos, will be called Autocephalous and will not be free, it will cause even more kinds of complaints. In addition, the Hierarch expressed thoughts regarding the election of the head of the future Church structures.
“My opinion is that the representative or head of the Autocephalous Church were appointed or granted from the canonical Church,” said Bishop, adding that if elected Primate Filaret “all will be opposed” and “no or few” of the UOC will move to the newly formed Church.
As reported by the SPM, the Holy Synod of the Patriarchate of Constantinople, which ended on 29 November, has not provided the Tomos of the Church in Ukraine and published his text, limiting the creation of its Charter. The Deputy head of the DECR of the UOC Archpriest Nikolai Danilevich explained that he considers strange that fact that yet the Church and its Charter are already doing. “This indicates a certain dependence or lack of independence in this process, it is the Ukrainian side. Because all the Churches that previously received autocephaly themselves wrote their statutes,” said the priest.
