Vladimir Putin visited Valaam

    

On the day Church celebrating the memory of the Valaam miracle workers of the venerable Sergius and Herman, the President visited the Spaso-Preobrazhensky Valaam monastery.

Vladimir Putin attended a solemn Liturgy in the Holy Transfiguration Cathedral of the Valaam monastery, which was made by the Patriarch of Moscow and all Russia Kirill. The President talked with the parishioners and congratulated them on the holiday. After the service the head of state together with the Patriarch walked around the grounds of the monastery, reports the website “President of Russia”.

    

The Valaam monastery is one of the most revered in Russia. Today it has more than 200 inhabitants. Every year the monastery is visited by over 100 thousand pilgrims and tourists.
